If you are a United Fiber customer located in an area where SmartTown Wi-Fi is available nearby, you will receive 2 email invitations with instructions on how to join the SmartTown.

The first email, from onboarding@smarttownwifi.com, will include a link to create a password and set up your SmartTown account.

The second email, from welcome@smarttownwifi.com, will include a link and QR code to download and install a Passpoint profile on your mobile devices. Passpoint is required to access SmartTown securely.

Passpoint is a technology developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance that allows devices like smartphones and laptops to automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks without needing to manually select a network and enter a password each time. It’s designed to improve the security and ease of connecting to public Wi-Fi networks.

SmartTown works with a wide range of devices, including:

Apple iPhones – iPhone 6 and newer running iOS 13 or later
Apple iPads – running iPadOS 13 or later
Android phones – running Android 11 or later
Android tablets – running Android 11 or later
Laptops & computers – running Windows 10 or later, or macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later

Not supported: Kindle devices and some other e-readers.

No, there will be no additional charges. SmartTown is a value-added service United provides to strengthen and support our community. By offering free access in shared spaces like parks and town squares, SmartTown helps keep neighbors, students, and families connected wherever community life happens.

No. The service utilizes excess bandwidth and will not impact the quality or speed of your internet service.

No, SmartTown is exclusively available to United Fiber Residential Internet customers. Each residential customer receives a unique access code to log in through PassPoint. Once authenticated, you can connect to SmartTown Wi-Fi anywhere a signal is available in town. If United Fiber service is discontinued, SmartTown access will be disabled.

For United Fiber Business customers, we recommend exploring our SmartBiz solution, which includes Guest Wi-Fi for your customers.

Rest assured that the security of your network remains our top priority. This change will not compromise the security of your network or data. The service is provided on a separate virtual connection and has security protocols. Passpoint uses advanced security protocols, such as WPA2- Enterprise (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) and WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3), to encrypt your data. This level of security is similar to what you would expect from a secure corporate network, which protects your information from being intercepted by others.

We understand that you might have specific concerns and appreciate your help in expanding educational opportunities in our community.

United Fiber’s SmartTown signal and connectivity are dependent on available United Fiber Blast routers across your community. United Fiber customers should expect the coverage to vary throughout different areas of town.
